Composite Decking Construction in Adelaide
All the look of timber with almost none of the upkeep. We design and build low maintenance composite decks that shrug off the Adelaide sun without splintering, rotting or needing yearly oiling.
We build composite decks across Adelaide on the same engineered subframes as our timber decks, with concealed fixings and no oiling, ever. Installed prices usually run $450 to $750 per m², so a 30 m² composite deck typically comes to $13,500 to $22,000. Owner Shannon Ursino holds SA builder's licence BLD 339869.

Low maintenance decking that keeps its looks
Composite decking is made from a blend of recycled timber fibre and polymer, so it never needs oiling or staining and will not splinter underfoot. For busy households, poolside areas and rentals it is the set and forget option: an occasional wash down is all it asks.
We build with leading composite decking board systems using concealed fixings, over the same properly engineered subfloors as our timber decks. The result is a clean, modern deck surface with no visible screw heads that stays comfortable and safe year round.

The honest downsides of composite
We install plenty of composite, and we tell every client the same four things before they choose it.
- It costs more upfront. Expect to pay noticeably more per square metre than hardwood.
- Dark boards get hot. In full Adelaide sun, darker colours can be uncomfortable under bare feet. Lighter colours and shade help a lot.
- It can scratch. Dragged furniture and dog claws leave marks, and unlike timber you cannot sand them out.
- It is not structural. Composite boards need a properly built frame underneath, with the expansion gaps the manufacturer specifies.
If none of those bother you, composite is the lowest effort deck you can own.

Frequently asked questions
Is composite decking worth the extra cost?
Composite boards usually cost more than timber up front, but you save on oil, stain and weekends of maintenance every year after. Over the life of the deck many owners come out ahead. We will price both options in your free quote so you can compare.
Does composite decking get hot in the sun?
Darker boards in full sun do get warmer than timber. Choosing lighter colours and quality UV stabilised boards makes a real difference, and we can advise on the best pick for exposed Adelaide backyards.
How long does composite decking last?
Quality composite boards are typically warranted for 10 to 25 years depending on the brand and range. Built on a sound subfloor, a composite deck will comfortably outlast several rounds of timber re-oiling.
Can you pressure wash composite decking?
Usually yes, on a low pressure setting and with a wide fan nozzle, but check the care guide for your board brand first. A broom and a hose handle most cleaning.
Is composite decking good around a pool?
It is a popular pool surround because it will not splinter and does not soak up chlorinated splash. Pick a lighter colour for heat and a board with a good slip rating for wet feet.
Is composite decking termite proof?
Termites do not eat composite boards, but the frame underneath still matters. We build the subframe to suit your site so the whole deck is protected, not just the surface.
Why composite makes sense in South Australia
Composite really earns its keep in the parts of Adelaide that are hardest on timber. Along the coast from Semaphore down to Brighton, salt air and sea spray corrode fixings and grey off timber fast, while composite boards and their concealed clips shrug it off. Around pools and spas, composite will not splinter bare feet or drink up chlorinated splash. And in exposed, treeless backyards through Adelaide's newer northern and southern suburbs, UV stabilised boards hold their colour where timber would need oiling every summer.
If you are weighing timber against composite for your suburb and site, we will quote both honestly and tell you which one we would put on our own place. Start with our composite vs timber comparison, and see typical numbers in the Adelaide decking cost guide.
