Deck Repairs and Maintenance in Adelaide
Soft boards, wobbly rails or a deck that has lost its colour? We repair, restore and maintain timber decks across Adelaide, and we will tell you straight if repair beats rebuild.
We repair and restore timber decks across Adelaide: rotten or split boards, loose rails, failed stumps and grey, weathered surfaces. Every job starts under the deck, and if the frame is not worth saving we show you why and quote a rebuild instead. Owner Shannon Ursino holds SA builder's licence BLD 339869.

Honest assessments, lasting repairs
Most tired decks do not need replacing. Rotten boards, rusted fixings, loose balustrades and sun bleached surfaces can usually be repaired for a fraction of a rebuild, provided the subfloor underneath is still sound. That is always where we start: a proper look at the stumps, bearers and joists before anything else.
If the structure checks out, we replace what is damaged, refasten what has worked loose, then sand and re-oil the deck so it looks close to new. If the frame is past saving we will show you why and quote a rebuild honestly, so you are never paying twice for the same deck.

Frequently asked questions
Should I repair my deck or rebuild it?
It comes down to the subfloor. If the stumps, bearers and joists are sound, repairing boards and rails is usually the smart money. If the structure has rot or movement, a rebuild is safer and cheaper long term. We assess it properly and give you a straight recommendation.
What are the signs a deck needs repair?
Soft or springy spots underfoot, boards that are cupping or splitting, rusted or popped fixings, wobbly handrails and stumps that have moved are all signs your deck needs attention. Catching them early keeps the repair small.
How often should a timber deck be re-oiled?
In Adelaide most timber decks want re-oiling every 12 to 18 months, sooner for decks in full sun.
How much do deck repairs cost?
Repairs are quoted after we look under the deck, because the price depends on what the subfloor shows.
Can you put new boards over my old deck?
Often, yes. If the stumps, bearers and joists are sound, we can strip the old boards and re-board the frame in timber or composite, which costs far less than a full rebuild. We check the frame first.
Can you bring an old balustrade up to code?
Yes. Under the National Construction Code a deck where someone could fall 1 m or more needs a balustrade at least 1 m high. Many older Adelaide decks fall short, and we can replace or raise the balustrade.
Repairing decks across Adelaide's older suburbs
A lot of Adelaide decks were bolted onto villas and bungalows decades ago, and the established suburbs are full of them: decks in Prospect, Unley and Norwood that have outlived several owners, Hills decks under big gums where leaf litter traps moisture against the boards, and coastal decks where the original fixings have long since rusted. Each of those ages differently, and each has its own repair plan.
Adelaide's dry heat is actually kind to deck structures compared with the eastern states, which is why so many older decks here are worth saving. A proper assessment, targeted repairs and a sand and re-oil will often buy a good deck another decade. If a rebuild turns out to be the better option, our Adelaide decking cost guide shows what a new deck typically costs.
